What The Hell Has Football Come To?

Gordon Hill Rafa BenitezI wrote earlier in the week about Rafael Benitez and how I felt I didn’t think he was doing such a great job at Stamford Bridge.

Writing that made me want to share something I wrote about the situation there a couple of months ago – Benitez has been in the news this week and you have to wonder if Abramovich is about to get trigger happy again. After yet another manager, Roberto Di Matteo, got his marching orders under the Russian Dictator Abramovich — and this is happening in my home city of London and at one of the top Football League clubs: Chelsea — I thought I would look into the goings-on in the Premier League.

I am in amazement at how Abramovich has been acting over the last few years. Di Matteo wins two trophies, one of them being the Champions League, and you cannot get better than that, but what happens? He gets the sack. This led me to have a look at other top clubs, and what I found will surprise you. Don’t get me wrong; I have nothing against Chelsea, but you have to wonder if any manager can satisfy this man. He’s already the owner, so why not also be the coach and manager, and be done with it. Somehow I don’t think he will sack himself. They’ve been in the news over the last couple of months, and now another man, Rafa Benitez, has stepped in and looks like his time might also be up too. I will leave you with this thought: This is the only game where you can get the sack and get a better job. “Bloody amazing!”
